After deciding I didn't want the priced to go up once again, I paid, got my receipt, and left. Two things stood out to me. Firstly, he wrote that it took one hour and forty minutes to get the car that was parked on an open lot ten to fifteen minutes away from the shop it was towed. Secondly, he charged me PER STRAP which tacked on $40 to the bill. The car is a little VW Golf and he wants to strap it to oblivion so he can charge more?! I know two wreckers personally and I've only seen them strap extremely large or somewhat unstable loads... and when they do, they don't charge for using straps BECAUSE THAT IS PART OF THEIR JOB. Do restaurants tack on charges for the plates you eat your food on? Meal: $15. Eating meal on a plate: $20.

The worst thing is that there is basically nothing anyone can do about these price-gouging lowlifes. This company deserves to fail. Please, never use this company. Ever.

The guys were extremely nice and thoughtful and helped me after we hydroplaned on the interstate in WV.

You've been warned

I called again the next morning, and I spoke to Michael Webb, the employee I was to deal with, and he told me he thought it would be about $190. I thought this price was unreasonable, as my car was parked just on the other side of the river from their shop and on a paved lot, but compared to the horror stories I had heard it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He then said, "but let me double-check," and my price was upped to $229.25.

That was bad enough, but it was even worse when I arrived with my mother and her fiance. There was a man that asked if we needed help when we arrived, and he and my mother's fiance spoke for a while (they are both in the towing business, but somewhat far away from each other). I eventually asked where I could pay and get my car, and the man pointed to a building. As I was walking towards that building, he asked, "How old are you?" I told him, and he responded with, "You need to join the military and make something of yourself."

They surely live up to their ratings! Towed my truck 20 miles to their "shop" in Po Dunk, WV, claiming they can have me on the road that day (Saturday 8am).. only to tell me at the end of the day that the parts place closed at 11 so I'll have to wait til Monday... Then late Monday afternoon they claimed that the part was bad (an air dryer), and it was the only one in stock... So wait yet another day to be told at the end of Tuesday that the 2nd air dryer was good, but my compressor was bad so I'll still have to go to dealership... then towed me 38 miles to dealership. They charged my company $3,000.00 for basically holding me hostage for 4 days... But by now, office for rental is closed, so I wait til Wednesday to even get a rental... Screwed me out of my next 2 trips because of their shadiness on top of ripping my company off!!! Wouldn't suprise me if I found out they didn't even change out the air dryer...

Fast friendly Wrecker Service professional. Good hospitality friendly dogs at the office good kids. Reminded me of mr. Rogers Neighborhood

I go inside to speak with Michael Webb, and he tells me it amounted to $233 and some change. The price was upped yet again. My mother asked what the charges were, and he circled around her questions with an, "oh, there was Uncle Sam to pay and it was on private property and I have a book this thick of rules to charge by, I can show you but (mumbling ensues)..." Mother's fiance said, "That's funny, I could never charge that much". Michael just BS'ed another response.

So, my mother's car (I drove it to my friend's because it was better on gas than any of my vehicles) was parked in what I thought was a public spot, but I was wrong (it had been privately owned for only a short period). My car was towed, as one could expect.

These people have countless allegations of their staff stealing from whatever is towed...loose change...c.d.'s...gps...

First, I called and asked the same day it was picked up if I could get it. I was told yes, but who I had to deal with wouldn't be back until midnight or 1AM. Of course, that is too late for anyone to want to meet, so I told them I'd return for it in the morning.

Beware

Does a carpenter charge you for if he decides to use a hammer? A plumber for using his wrench? No... It. Is. Part. Of. Doing. Their. Job.

These people are listed by OOIDA Landline Magazine as a company that overcharges and that the Public Service Comission of the state they operate in...West Virginia...demanded that Hutchs towing MUST return funds to those that theyed overcharged.

I had said nothing for this man to insult me as he did- and he did it in front of my mother and her fiance. I graduated with honors. I got scholarships. I traveled the world and had recently received yet another opportunity to work a great job overseas- and this man insults me, assuming I am nothing, for no good reason. Of course we were all furious, but any outburst would be foolish because they still had my mother's vehicle. It turns out the man was an employee there who was not on duty at the time.

These people have a D- rating by the Better Business Bureau

I found out Hutch's had my car, so I became curious and looked at the reviews online. I somewhat knew what I was dealing with since the reviews are all horrible and they had lawsuits against them, but it was even worse than I had anticipated.
